Post SSRs on websites a month before applying for accreditation: NAAC

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has made it mandatory for all institutes to put up their self-study reports (SSR) on their websites a month prior to applying for an accreditation certification from the national body, NAAC director H A Ranganath said on Friday.

Speaking at a national seminar on 'NAAC a tool for quality improvement with special reference to new SSR and RAR,' Ranghanath said, "We frequently receive complaints about colleges not being well equipped and lacking facilities. As per NAAC 2012 guidelines, we have made it mandatory for institutes to put up their SSRs on their websites a month before applying for assessment by NAAC. Thus, all critical information about the institute would be available in the public domain, promoting transparency," said Ranganath.

Ranganath also said soon the SSR format will also be available in Hindi. So far the format was available only in English and was seen by many institutes, especially in interior and remote areas, as a major obstacle while applying to NAAC.

He also said that in an attempt to enhance the quality of higher education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to make accreditation mandatory for all universities and colleges coming under its purview.

In future, all universities, institutions of higher learning and colleges in the country will have to obtain accreditation certificates from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to get funds from the UGC for various academic and research programmes.

NAAC director also appealed to institutes to make public the reports on researches undertaken by institutes periodically. "If these reports are made public, people will know the kind of research work that is going on at the institute," he said.
