Ahead of the Diwali celebrations, the Department of Posts,Pune region has made special arrangements for handling and processing Diwali greetings. While last year the postal department handled about 22 lakh Diwali cards, this year,it is expecting more than 25 lakh greeting cards to land across its offices in Pune.

Pune region Post Master General S C Jarodia said,”We have been making special arrangements for handling the additional load of Diwali greetings posted by the general public as well as by the corporate houses. It is a mammoth task to handle the huge inflow of greeting cards that land for dispatch. Therefore,we have made arrangements for acceptance of these greetings at important post offices in the city and other district offices in our region including Pune,Satara,Ahmednagar and Solapur.”

All post offices in the region have been instructed to keep adequate stock of postal stamps and stationery material including the greeting envelopes to meet Diwali rush. Some of the important post offices including the head office, will be selling greeting cards to members of the public.

“All the post offices have been asked to pre-sort Diwali mails and prepare labelled bundles. The major post offices have been asked to put rubber stamp indicating Diwali mails on the check slip and bag labels to ensure special treatment of Diwali greetings. We have also directed our staff to clear the letterboxes even on the day of Diwali. Sorting of mails will also be done on Sunday as a special case,” he said.
