The Gujarat Government later announced an award of Rs 5 lakh, but many glossed over that.
Gohil refused to talk about the pamphlets. “I know who has done this. Let the polls be over and then I will answer them,” said Gohil.
Chudasama, who is now a reluctant BJP supporter, looked surprised when asked about the pamphlet.
“Such pamphlets only impact the fence-sitters, not those who are avowed Congress or BJP supporters,” said Chudasama.
Rajiv Topno, the Vadodara district election officer, said investigations can be ordered if such pamphlets violate EC rules, but only when they carry the name of the printer or the publisher.
Nilesh Patel of Uma Bharti’s Bharatiya Janshakti Party and Congress debutant Jayshree Gohil are the others in the fray.
