Posters in city project Modi as PM candidate

BJP president Rajnath Singh may have said the NDA prime ministerial candidate will be decided at an appropriate time but posters projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi have sprung up across the city.

The posters read: Desh ka pradhan mantri kaisa ho, Narendra Modi jaise ho.

Some demand Modi take some time out for a public rally in Mumbai in March.

BJP Mumbai unit spokesperson Raj Purohit said: "We know nothing about the posters. As a party, we cannot project any person as a prime ministerial candidate till a decision is made by the national high command."

He said the posters had come up following Modi's speech at Delhi's Shri Ram College of Commerce last week.

"The number of people queuing up for BJP membership increased dramatically after that speech. Local-level party workers and fans of Modi have put up the posters," said Purohit.

The posters have come up in parts of Borivali and Kandivali, along Western Express Highway and parts of the island city too.

Purohit said following Modi's victory in Gujarat assembly elections, the party's city unit had been requesting him to visit Mumbai. "Yesterday, we sent another request asking him to come to Mumbai on any Sunday next month."
