The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) of the Central government has approved power development schemes of Rs 93 crore for seven districts — Sirsa, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Mewat, Fatehabad and Hisar.
The schemes aims at providing free electricity connections and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) to the residents who are below poverty line (BPL), under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY).
Anurag Agarwal, Managing Director, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, said the schemes under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojna for Faridabad and Gurgaon districts have also been submitted for approval and are likely to be approved soon.
Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam plans to provide free electricity connection to 1,25,904 below-poverty line families in its area and it would also create infrastructural capacity for these connections, he added.
“Committees would be formed at block level for distribution of CFLs among below-poverty line families. The committees would include representatives of the district administration and panchayats,” he said.
The Rural Electrification Corporation has also sanctioned a plan worth Rs 220 crore to create high voltage distribution system (HVDS) in 475 villages in Bhiwani district.
