Power generation costs in Haryana has gone up by over 300 per cent in the last 36 years. Power Minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav said this in the Vidhan Sabhas budget session on Monday. While replying to a query put up by INLD leader Jarnail Singh during Question Hour,Yadav said: While the cost of power generation in 1976-77 was 16.39 crore,it rose to Rs 5,061 crore in 2010-11. Around Rs 3292.89 crore have already been spent in 2011-12 (till September 30,2011) on power generation in the state. The issue resulted in a debate between the Opposition and Congress leaders with the Opposition raking up the Yamunanagar thermal power plant issue. A rotor in one of the units had developed a snag in September last year, which resulted in its shutdown. Yadav said: The rotor was purchased from Reliance and a penalty has also been imposed on the company. It has been sent to the Shanghai Electric Company for repairs and central Electricity Authority has been asked to investigate the reasons for the snag. Dissatisfied with the reply,INLD MLA Bishan Lal Saini pointed out that the units shutdown leads to a loss of around 75 lakh units daily.
