Power projects with coal links in focus

The project has coal link available from Chandipada coal block in Orissa. Fuel supply agreement was signed between Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd and Jawaharpur Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd in October 2011 for this coal link. UPRVUN has got 50 per cent share in reserves of Chandipada and Chandipada II block and Jawaharpur project is one of the two projects,which have got approval for this coal link.

About 900 acres of land required for the project in Etah district has been acquired. Not only this,the project has also got required nod to draw 53 cusecs of water from Lower Ganga Canal. However,before going ahead with the bidding process for the project,JVUNL is required to get environmental clearance.

Official sources said that recently a presentation before the expert advisory committee of Union Ministry of Environment and Forest was made by the UP Power Department,seeking early clearance for the project which requires an investment of about Rs 6,600 crores was conceived under Public Private Partnership model in 2010.

Two units of 660 MW each were set to commission from 2016 but the bidding process for the project has been put on hold last year pending environment clearance.

“It is a significant power project because we have everything — right from coal link from Chandipada to land required for establishment of the plant. We have also got clearance from Electricity Regulatory Commission to go ahead with the bidding process but only after we get the environment clearance” said Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd Chairman-cum-Managing Director Avnish Awasthi.

Jawaharpur Vidhyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd is a special purpose vehicle created by the UP Power Corporation Ltd just for this project.
