The power within a living being is the inspiration of Collection,an exhibition of 50 works in acrylic and oil by Delhi-based artists Camelliasuman and Biswajit Das at the Punjab Kala Bhavan. I work in various mediums, but prefer acrylics and charcoal, says Camelliasuman, who has used metaphors to depict the struggle of power between a man and a woman and also their relationship of love. Durga in various forms and moods depicts a womans power. Krishnas power of love,be it for Radha,or used to protect Draupadi,is painted in dark tones, with a textured finish to the canvas. This makes people want to feel the works, says Camelliasuman, who has done a series of art installations, where bangles, earrings, anklets and nose rings have been used on canvas.
Das,on the other hand, has painted a series on animals and some of his most arresting works have horses. Horse power has been used to denote the power of the masses. Horses can bring tsunamis, yet are so gentle and loving, says Das. The conflict between a man and a woman has been depicted through a series of birds. While birds portray the female form, the colour blue stands for the male gender. The constant struggle is expressed through various expressions and colours.
The exhibition is on till today,at Punjab Kala Bhawan,
Sector 16.
