The Gujarat CID (Crime),which is investigating the Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case, has sought preserved data of mobile phone records of some state cadre police officers involved in the encounter from the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The request was made after the CID realised that a CD in its possession containing mobile phone records of the concerned police officers had been tampered with.
According to sources, during the investigation into the case, the investigating officers prepared a CD containing mobile phone records of various police officers in the state. However,CID (Crime) sources said, the present investigating team has found that the content of the CD has been tampered with and some data has been consciously deleted by somebody. To ascertain this, the CID (Crime) has written to the BSNL to provide the preserved data of the mobile phones numbers during the time of the encounter. The CID (Crime) is likely to compare data of the two versions to ascertain the incidence of tampering and also recover the deleted data.
Prajapati was allegedly killed in a fake encounter near Ambaji in Banaskantha district in December 2006,when some Rajasthan police officials were taking him to be presented in a court in Gujarat.
