The arrested ACB cop Ashish Pandya was taken to Chapri village near Ambaji Town on Thursday for on-the-spot verification of the Tulsi Prajapati encounter case. Pandya has confessed that he had fired at Prajapati and said that the encounter was justified.
DIG CID I M Desai said,Pandya was taken to the same spot but he was trying to retract his statements. He doesnt agree that it was a fake encounter. Pandya is claiming that Tulsi had fired at him with his country-made revolver and that he had retaliated, shooting from his service revolver. He claims that he had to shoot at Tulsi to save his own life.
The CID officials in their investigation had revealed that Pandya had taken the custody of Prajapati from the Kalupur railway station and had taken him to Chapri.
One Rajasthan police constable and two other unidentified persons had accompanied Prajapati.
Desai said,Pandya maintains the FIR of the Banaskantha Police stating that Prajapati has escaped from police custody after the court hearing on December 27.
He claims that he found Prajapati next day at Ambaji during the special patrolling that was arranged by the SOG Banaskantha.
He further said,The Gujarat police constables who are in our custody have already confessed to the whole encounter. The fact is that Pandya had taken the custody of Prajapati from Ahmedabad and taken him to Ambaji. At Ambaji,he fired at Prajapati followed by Rajasthan police constables who shot three rounds at Prajapati.
Pandya in his interrogation with CID had admitted last week that suspended officer Vipul Aggarwal, the then SP Banaskantha, had called him. He had confessed to the CID that Aggarwal had called him to report on duty immediately and that he should talk to D G Vanzara for more details.
Desai said,Pandya accepts that Aggarwal spoke to him a few minutes before the encounter and he had also spoken to Vanzara but is hiding the conversation that they had a day before the encounter.
According to CID,Pandya claims that the revolver found near Prajapatis body was his (Prajapatis) revolver and was not placed by anyone else.
