External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will give clarifications in the Rajya Sabha on the recent developments in Sri Lanka, an issue over which several members expressed their anguish, on Thursday.

Mukherjee, who made a statement in the House on the issue on Wednesday, said that he would be prepared to answer clarifications which the members wanted to seek.

He said he was happy to make the statement in the Rajya Sabha unlike in the Lok Sabha where Left members stormed the well of the House, prompting him to only table the statement.

"I am happy I could make the statement here. Mr Raja's (CPI) colleagues did not allow me to make the statement in the other House," he said.

Earlier in the day, the issue of plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka sparked uproar in the Upper House with members wanting India to strive for a political settlement of the ethnic issue in the island nation.

In his statement, Mukherjee said that India was concerned over the plight of civilians caught in the hostilities in Sri Lanka.

People of India’s interest are first! By: pavitran | 24-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward It is surprise to note the double standard statement, It is well known fact since 1971, millions migrated to India from Bangladesh and it is going on with out full stop. No action is taken to push back the anti –Nationals and terrorist supports, just for importing votes. The Bangladeshi have free country, what they are doing here? The Tamils migrated from India during British period. Why Tamils don’t have the right to come back? The Government suggesting dual citizenship for NRI, it is on what basses ? Sri Lanka pretends like a friendly country at the same time, it is helping Pakistan
Sri Lanka War By: KUMAR | 22-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Today two ships carrying arms and ammunation to Jaffna were destroyed by L.T.T.E in the early hours of the morning the government of Sri Lanka claimed that the ships were carrying food but the truth is they were transporting wepons what happened one ship was completly sunk and the other one is damaged to a great extent . The government of Sri Lanka cannot fool the Tamils and the world for long. God is great he will teach them a lesson.
India acting Pak?By: RS | 22-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Mr KUMAR,India supporting the Tamils in Sri Lanka? Don't you think that would be very much similar to Pakistan supporting terrorists in Kashmir?Whatever is happening in Sri Lanka, is entirely an internal affair to the country, and we should NOT interfere. LTTE is a rebel/ seperatist group, and considering similar acts going on in India, we should not support it! Period!P.S: All said and done, I know, the spineless central government under pressure from its allies, will intervene in this matter.
India has to act promptly..By: LionCub | 22-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Mr RS, Understand that Srilankan Tamils are legitimate people of their own land. When they are in trouble naturally Tamil race will feel the pain of the people suffering there. The government of Srilanka is not doing enough steps to safegaurd, protect and provide the right full place for its people of Tamil race. If it does, then its most welcomed. No Srilankan gov. has done this yet. Where as in the case of Kashmir, India is providing the special status to her in order for Kashmir to be part of India. This is not the case in Srilanka. Its just opposite, the gov. is oppressing its own people not favouring them. This creates the ethnic uncertainity in the country. Please understand the real picture before comparing.
Srilankan TamilBy: PC | 22-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Mr. RS is wrong in equating the issue of Srilankan tamil to the Kashmir. Kashmir is an integral part of India and Kashmiris are treated at par with rest of the indian citizen. Infact they enjoy a special status too which the rest of the indians denied. Whereas the tamils are co-living for centuries, they are verymuch deprieved. For e.g., a srilankan tamil student must score much higher marks than what is priscribed for his senali co-student in any exam. This is just one e.g. Like this they are denied their right in every aspect. This is not the case with the Kashmiris.
Kasmiris Vs TamiliansBy: Subhash Pillai | 15-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward The truth which Mr RS spit out is unpalatable to many 'patriotic' Indians. Mr Lionclub feels the pain only when the Tamil race is being hurt. And that is the crux of all problems. I don't want to take a stand on this issue. But essentially the plights of Kashmiris and Tamilians are the same. Both of them should come down to the realities and accept the fact that an armed conflict is not going to give them a separate state. The world is becoming a global village and it is time to learn the art of co-existence
Pranab Mukerjee to clarifyBy: KUMAR | 22-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward What clarification is he going to make he will say what the president of Sri Lanka has briefed him what ever the Sri Lankan president has said is not the truth they are trying to fool the Tamils world over and the Indian Government. In Sri Lanka abductions are taking place every day the people being abducted are 0nly Tamils the country is being run by the three brothers of the President . There is no strong opposition party if the opposition cries foul they will be eliminated like Mr Janaka Perera and others?????? what more can you ask for the country is run according to the whims and fancy of one family .Only God can save the Tamils.
