  • Pacer Praveen Kumar was involved in a drunken brawl with a local doctor following which he had to apologise for, according to local police here.

According to the Sadar Bazar police, Shantanu, a physician with the Civil Lines Subharti Hospital, has accused Praveen of beating him after his car allegedly splashed water on the inebriated cricketer and his friends.

The doctor said that Praveen felt the action was deliberate and followed him to a glass shop, the scene of the assault.

“I had gone to purchase glasses at a shop on Wednesday night, when some water from the road splashed on Praveen and his friends standing by the roadside,” he said.

“Praveen and his friends reached the shop and started manhandling me. They alleged that I had intentionally done it.

“They were drunk and also broke glasses in the shop. The shopkeeper reported the matter to police. Praveen later apologised,” he said, of the now resolved issue. Praveen is said to have promised never to misbehave similarly in the future.

Although Praveen’s case is different from that of the Harbhajan slapping row, he could come under the board’s scanner. Praveen could be charged under the ICC Code of Conduct clause on the unbecoming of a cricketer in a public place and/or causing grievance to the public.
