Expressing concern over the status of primary education in Maharashtra,Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has appealed big educational groups like Bharati Vidyapeeth to come forward to improve the situation.
The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) has painted a grim picture of primary education in the state with quality of primary education being offered raising concern in several parts of the state. Educational groups such as Bharati Vidyapeeth,Rayat Shikshan Sanstha,Maharashtra Education Society and Deccan Education society should devote their time and efforts to boost education, he said.
Pawar was speaking at the 49th foundation day of Bharati Vidyapeeth here on Friday. Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde,Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Rayat Shikshan Sanstha executive president Raosaheb Shinde were present among others.
Pawar lauded the leadership of Maharashtra Forest Minister Patangrao Kadam,the founder of Bharati Vidyapeeth,for making education accessible to all through his institutions.
Addressing the function,Prithviraj Chavan said Bharati Vidyapeeth has helped create a new learned generation in Maharashtra. Patangrao Kadam has helped many rural youth not having sound financial background to pursue education. The fee-waiver offered to such youth has also created a new generation of learned human resource, he said.
Lauding efforts of Patangrao Kadam in building Bharati Vidyapeeth,Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said the institution should scale new heights of success in future.
Rs 75 lakh donated for CMs Relief Fund
Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University,on the occasion of its 49th foundation day,donated Rs 75 lakh to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund. The cheque was handed over by V-C Shivajirao Kadam and secretary Vishwajeet Kadam to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday.
