Prince Harry, the third-in- line to the British throne, has reportedly become one of the youngest members of the Royal Family to receive the ‘Golden Heart’ award in Germany for his humanitarian and charity work.
Bettina Wulff, the wife of German President Christian Wulff, handed the 26-year-old Royal the award at the Herz Fuer Kinder (have a heart for children) charity event for his work in Lesotho in Africa, during a live TV show in Berlin. “You have helped 3,000 children so far,” Bettina Wulff, the wife of German President Christian Wulff, said on show aired to all over Germany on Saturday.
“From the bottom of my heart, vielen Dank,” Harry replied in a mix of English and German.
The Prince said that “compared to so many people who devote their whole lives to restoring hope to children around the world,I have done very little,” the media reported.
Urging viewers to support the African charity he co-founded in 2006 to helps young AIDS victims in Lesotho,he said: “Sentebale (charity) helps people in Lesotho to help themselves.”
The charity event every year aims to support children and families in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. It has raised 150 million euros since it began collecting funds in 1978.
Harry, known his charity work, says he was inspired by his mother,Princess Diana,to work with children with AIDS. The late Princess of Wales was one of the first very high-profile people to be pictured touching those afflicted with AIDS. “HIV doesn’t make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them hug heaven knows they need it,” she had said.
