  • The Administration has repatriated the principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, after the audit report of school showed gross irregularities.

Principal Anil Sharma, who had come from Haryana on deputation around six years ago, has been accused of bungling funds to the tune of Rs 20 lakh. The Administration has asked Sharma to go back to Haryana with immediate effect.

According to the audit submitted to the home secretary, Sharma had used a large amount of money from the PTA fund, but failed to provide the receipt and the details of the firms which undertook various projects.

He had withdrawn money for various purposes ranging from installing an air-conditioner worth Rs 29,000 to putting tiles worth Rs 2.5 lakh.

While in April 2008, Rs 11,000 were withdrawn in the name of carrying out works at the District Education Office, the principal could not clarify the purpose in the audit. In September 2007, too, he had withdrawn Rs 4,822 for purchasing a gift for the same office.

Apart from these, a payment of Rs 1.7 lakh and another of Rs 82,000 was made to Baljit Industries and Kishore Traders respectively in 2008. Baljit Industries also received a payment of Rs 50,000 from the same fund.

The principal had also withdrawn around Rs 15,000 for a beauty parlour to be constructed in the school, but the project never took off.

Talking to Newsline, Ram Niwas, Home Secretary, confirmed that he had received complaints against Sharma regarding embezzlement of funds. “This is gross violation of the students’ fund. Sharma had been evading an inquiry into the matter. We have taken disciplinary action against him and he has been relieved of his charges. He has been asked to report to his parent cadre with immediate effect,” he said.
