The shortlist of authors whose works have been nominated for the annual Vodafone Crossword Book Award was announced last week at the ML Bhartia Auditorium in the city.

The shortlist of authors whose works have been nominated for the annual Vodafone Crossword Book Award was announced last week at the ML Bhartia Auditorium in the city. On the roll call are authors Gurcharan Das for The Difficulty of being good – On The Subtle Art of Dharma,Baulsphere by Mimlu Sen,Bollywood In Posters by S M M Ausaja in the non-fiction category,The Beast with Nine Billion Feet by Anil Menon,The Magic Store of Nu-Cham Vu by Shreekumar Varma in the Children’s category and Othappu by Valson Thampu,translated by Sarah Joseph in the translation category. Other writers shortlisted are Anita Sharma for her work Bakkarwals of Jammu & Kashmir and Roopa Pai for her children’s book The Quest for the Shyn Emeralds. The announcement was made by authors Namita Gokhale and Manjula Padmanabhan,publisher and director of Zubaan,Urvasi Butalia along with VK Karthika,publisher and chief editor,Harper Collins. It was followed by a panel discussion on whether children’s writing in India has come of age in recent times.
