Congress chief Sonia Gandhis daughter,Priyanka Vadra, underwent a minimal access surgery to remove gall bladder stones at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Monday morning. She was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night.

Doctors said the stones were detected during a routine examination. She was found to have stones in the gall bladder and elective gall bladder surgery has been done this morning successfully. She is stable now, said Dr D S Rana,Chairman, board of management of the hospital.

Sources said Priyanka had complained of abdomen pain after which scans were performed. A surgery was advised considering the number and size of stones. A team of doctors led by Dr Praveen Bhatia of the Department of Minimal Access Surgery conducted the procedure through a laparoscope. Gall bladder stones can block the flow of bile if they get stuck near the liver or intestine.

Sources said Sonia,Rahul Gandhi and husband Robert Vadra were present in hospital during the surgery. She is recuperating normally. Since it was a minimal invasive procedure, she is likely to be discharged tomorrow itself, a doctor at the hospital said. A follow-up examination will be performed on Tuesday morning.
