A week after the suspension of M S University Registrar, A V Gupta, the one-member committee appointed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramesh Goyal has started its investigation into the alleged irregularities committed by him. The probe is being carried out by retired judge B R Acharya. “We cannot define the time period by which the probe should be concluded. The report will be submitted at the earliest,” said Goyal.
On October 15, the V-C had exercised his emergency power under Section 11(4) to suspend Gupta on account of an RTI filed by MSU Senate member Narendra Ravat. The RTI revealed that Gupta, an ex-Army personnel, had been drawing excess salary from the university by concealing details of increment in his pension amount from Rs 8,827 to Rs 11,216 in 2006. Ever since, he had drawn an excess amount of Rs 1.5 lakh. Acharya has been provided with details of Gupta’s bank accounts, salary statements and other necessary details for the investigation. Earlier, a three-member committee of Senate members was formed to investigate into the matter, which was not approved by the V-C.
