A day after a person was killed when police retaliated after being fired upon by some persons in car they were chasing at Behram toll plaza,the Nawanshahr Deputy Commissioner Shruti Singh ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. The probe has been ordered on the request of Nawanshahr SSP Dr Narinder Bhargav. Some of the eyewitnesses claimed that police could have acted with restraint and termed the incident as 'murder'. As per the reports,five persons,including Jugraj Singh who had escaped from police custody ,his wife,son Gurtej Singh,daughter-in-law Simran,and grand daughter Seerat were travelling in a Safari car. When the vehicle halted at Behram Toll Plaza,an exchange of fire took place between a police party that was following the car and the men sitting in the Safari, said an eyewitness. Jugraj's daughter-in-law said that they were not trying to escape. She claimed the police fired first. Her one-year-old daughter was injured in the incident,while Gurtej was killed. The police officials have claimed that they were fired upon first by the persons present in the vehicle.
