Probe panel to examine former CM Chavan again

The two-member judicial commission probing the Adarsh housing society scam has decided to once again examine former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on October 4.

The panel has to examine another five witnesses before it starts final arguments on October 15. Chavan, who had earlier deposed before the commission on June 30, will be asked membership-related questions.

Chavan is accused of introducing 40 per cent non-defence members to the society. "He will be examined on a few particular terms of reference. Another witness Pradeep Vyas has also been called again," confirmed a commission officer.

So far, 182 witnesses, including society members, army and IAS officers, have been examined by the commission.

Meanwhile, former urban development secretary Jairaj Phatak moved an application for examination of Satish Dhupelia, who was on the BMC high-rise committee.

Phatak, ex-municipal commissioner, is accused of allegedly having allowed the height of the Adarsh building to be raised beyond 100 metres without approval of the high-rise committee.
