The Home Ministers meeting on the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) last week has mobilised the intelligence-sharing procedure between the states. Special Cell officers are being put on round-the-clock duty at the Delhi Police headquarters at the ITO over the last few days for the purpose. The Delhi Police is sharing intelligence round the clock with other states and vice-versa from the control room in the police headquarters,said police sources. Earlier the police used to get intelligence inputs from other states but it was not necessary for them to give a feedback. However,with MAC being introduced,it has become mandatory for them to give a feedback on receiving any input from any state. This has been done primarily to ensure that the receiver acts on inputs and does not keep sitting on them, a senior police officer said. Throughout the day,officers of the Special Cell are deputed at the control room and intelligence inputs are shared to prevent any untoward incident, a senior police officer said. Police sources said that though the system of sharing intelligence was in place earlier,it was not very effective. Now the forces have become extra vigilant and the system has apparently been revived this year. Officers who are deputed at the headquarters keep in touch with the intelligence agencies of other states,including union territories,and alerts are shared among the states. The mode of sharing the input depends on the magnitude of the secret information. The message flashes in the control room. In some cases,letters and faxes are exchanged depending upon the nature of the threat, police sources said. Senior Delhi Police officers said that usually there is an inspector,ASIs and constables deputed at headquarters for the tasks. Also,a person is available to pass vital information to offices situated in Delhi,if necessary,on motorcycle. The Deputy Commissioner of Police,Special Cell,Alok Kumar said,About four to five of our officers have been deputed there for now and we make internal adjustments to depute them for this work.
