  • Professor R K Sharma was named as the new Director of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science by Governor B L Joshi on Sunday. The tenure of the outgoing director, Prof A K Mahapatra, ends on September 28.

“I have received a letter from the Governor appointing me as the director. The date of my assuming office is, however, yet to be decided,” said Professor Sharma, Head of Department of Nephrology and in-charge of Hospital Administration at SGPGI.

“The institute has achieved expertise in tertiary care for patients. It needs to move further in national healthcare,” Sharma told The Indian Express.

Known for introducing a round-the-clock pharmacy at SGPGI, Prof Sharma has handled a number of administrative posts in his 22-year-long association with the institute.

He served as Dean in 2005 and 2006 and was also head of the ‘Hospital Revolving Fund’.
