Even as former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday filed for bail in the Karnataka High Court in connection with his arrest in two private complaints of corruption, more legal troubles are brewing for him. Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday has adjourned till October 20 the former chief minister's bail hearing. An inquiry conducted by the Lokayukta police,on the directions of a designated court, into another private complaint of corruption filed against Yeddyurappa has reported the existence of sufficient evidence to prosecute Yeddyurappa. A deputy superintendent of police of the Lokayukta told a special court hearing Lokayukta cases here on Monday that it had found strong evidence for prosecuting the former chief minister in two out of three instances of corruption in a complaint referred to the Lokayukta police for inquiry on March 24. In the complaint,Yeddyurappa in one instance is accused of using his office to release 1.12 acres of land acquired by the Bangalore Development Authority in 2003 at a cost of Rs 17.18 lakh in favour of his sons who sold the land to the JSW-linked South West Mining Company for Rs 20 crore. Yeddyurappa is accused of causing a loss of Rs 19.60 crore to the state in this complaint filed on January 22 this year by advocate Sirajin Basha at the Lokayukta court after receiving sanctions to prosecute the then chief minister from Governor H R Bhardwaj. The Lokayukta court which took cognizance of this complaint against Yeddyurappa on February 26 in its order on March 24 said it is postponing the issuance of summons to Yeddyurappa until an inquiry report is submitted by the Lokayukta police. The issue of process against the accused is postponed and under Section 202 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code the matter is referred to the Superintendent of Police,Karnataka Lokayukta, for inquiry and report, the Lokayukta court said in its March 24 order. The reference to the Lokayukta police is to decide if there are sufficient grounds to proceed further, the court said. In a report on the inquiry placed before the special court recently and taken up on Monday, the Lokayukta police has stated that a detailed inquiry has revealed sufficient evidence for prosecution of Yeddyurappa, his sons and son-in-law in the instances of corruption referred to in the complaint. Lokayukta judge N K Sudhindra Rao has asked the Lokayukta police to place a final inquiry report stating its findings with reference to the accusations and has posted the case for hearing on further action to October 29. Yeddyurappa bail plea hearing adjourned to Oct 20 The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday adjourned to October 20 (Thursday) the hearing on the interim bail plea of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in denotifying government lands. Justice B V Pinto adjourned the hearing on the application filed on Monday by Yeddyurappa, who, facing imminent arrest, had surrendered before the Lokayukta Court on last Saturday after it rejected his bail application. The Judge rejected the plea by C H Hanumantharaya, the counsel for the petitioner Sirajin Basha, for 20-days time to file his objections to the bail plea. Yeddyurappa's counsel Ravi B Naik objected to this and submitted that since it was only an interim bail application,it should be heard as early as possible. The Lokayukta court had on October 15 remanded Yeddyurappa in judicial custody till October 22. Yeddyurappa, against whom five private complaints have been filed by Basha alleging irregularities in denotification of government land, has been undergoing treatment in the state-run Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology for high blood pressure and chest pain since October 15. Jayadeva Hospital Director Dr C N Manjunath told reporters on Tuesday that Yeddyurappa is likely to be discharged from the hospital by the evening.
