A septuagenarian Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Surinder Kaur was drugged and robbed of her jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh at her house in Preet Colony in Zirakpur, the police said on Friday. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon but was reported on Friday.

The local police received a call from Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, in Chandigarh where the woman is admitted for treatment.

Around 3.30 pm on Thursday, two “property dealers” from Kalka, whom she reportedly knew visited Kaur to discuss a deal for a property that she had recently put on the market. “They offered me lassi, which they had brought along. Since I knew them, I consumed it, following which I fell unconscious,” she told the police in her statement.

Her neighbours found her unconscious several hours later and rushed her to hospital, the police said. Though she had met them before, Kaur could not recall the names or addresses of the accused, they added.

Kaur is settled in Canada and regularly visits her native place where she owns a property, which is reportedly worth crores of rupees. 

The police have launched a hunt to trace the miscreants. No case had, however, been lodged till the filing of the report.
