With the Syndicate and the Senate giving its approval,Panjab University will now implement the reservation policy of the Centre as prescribed by the UGC in its new guidelines for the appointment of faculty in toto.
The rules of reservation would be applicable to all teaching posts including lecturers, readers, and professors, among others, with 15 per cent reservation for SC and 7.5 per cent for ST,both at the time of recruitment and internal promotion. Similar mathematics would be employed while allotting on-campus accommodation.
The percentage of reservation would be applied separately for each recruitment year. All the SC/ST candidates selected according to their position in the combined general merit list would not be counted for covering the prescribed percentage of reservation. SC/ST candidates would be interviewed separately and a member of the Selection Committee would belong to the SC/ST category.
In adherence to the guidelines of the UGC,Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti has constituted a Standing Committee to oversee the effective implementation of the reservation policy and suggest follow-up measures for achieving the objectives and targets laid down in respect of the reserved categories. On the recommendations of the committee,a department-wise roster for appointments has already been prepared.
