He added: "It appears that the present Opposition leaders had no interest in the development of the state and welfare of the people. They are not only opposing the government, but are also opposing the generation of power. Their basic aim is to create hindrances in development and tarnish the image of the government." Yadav claimed that the setting up of the plant was the need of the hour, as resources like coal and gas were limited and Haryana has no hydel-power potential.
The 4x700 MW nuclear plant will be built at Gorakhpur by the National Power Corporation of India Ltd. It will be developed on 1,100 acres and will consume 50 tonnes of uranium annually at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. The plant will be a green project with zero emission.
Will fight tooth and nail
Secretary general of INLD, Ajay Singh Chautala, said his party will oppose the plant tooth and nail at Tuesday's meeting. "Under no circumstances will we let the government maul general opposition to the plant. We will not let the government prevail upon the innocent people of the area," said Chautala, adding that the party will be represented by his younger brother Abhay Singh Chautala at the meeting.
