Pune Fest: Music, drama and sporting action on Day 2

Day two of the Pune Festival started on Saturday with music and dance by children in the Ugavtey Taare competition and culminated with the Mahalaxmi ballet by actor Hema Malini and her troupe, interspersed by several sporting events and a play by employees of the Pune Municipal Corporation and .

The venue of Ugavtey Taare was Balgandharva Rangmandir, where employees of the municipal corporation showed off their acting prowess in the evening. They staged the critically acclaimed play Satyashodhak. The Mahalaxmi ballet was performed at the Ganesh Kala Krida Kendra.

A golf tournament, a bicycle rally, and the National Ice Skating competition were held as part of the festival.

Children participating in Ugavtey Taare rendered the Ganesh Vandana and showcased the theme of patriotism through a wide range of dance forms. They performed Lavani, classical and Bollywood dance. The Dheemhi group performed the Ganesh Vandana. Ya Ravaji, Ugavli Shukrachi Chandani, Reshmachya Dhagyani were some of those who performed the Lavani.

Participants also danced to Hindi and Marathi film songs. This was the second round of the Ugavtey Taare. The third round of the competition will be held on Sunday from 9.30am to 3.30pm at Balgandharva Rangmandir and the fourth from 5pm to 8pm at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium. Satyashodhak was performed in the evening. The play dealing with the life and teachings of Mahatma Phule saw a packed audience.

The bicycle rally of 100 cyclists began at Balgandharva Rang Mandir and after covering JM Road and Tilak Road culminated at Nehru Stadium. It was held to encourage use of bicycles and spread awareness on anti-pollution measures.

The golf tournament at Pune Golf Course was won by S Netzhik and Divesh Vadhwan in the silver group. Sushant Khosala and DS Parmar won the top honours in the bronze group. Hema Malini's dance held the wonderstruck at her interpretation of the dance.
