Pune IT sector to go on hiring spree

Twenty-six-year-old software engineer,Rahul,working at Hinjewadi IT park had to take a 15 per cent salary cut 18 months ago. At that time he had no option but to continue. But now things have changed,he is in talks with a prospective employer. The IT/ITES sector in Pune that had frozen recruitment owing to global slowdown is getting back to normal with attrition rates once again getting ready to climb.
If we take the two IT hubs,Bangalore and Pune,there is better buoyancy in the latter. Compared to Bangalore,IT industry is strongly up in Pune, said E Balaji,CEO,Ma Foi Management Consultants Ltd,an international HR service provider.
For almost one-and-a-half years,companies were going through a challenging period due to global slowdown. But with the economic indicator pointing towards a fast recovery,hiring process has started. According to a survey carried out by us,it is estimated that the IT/ITES sector will generate 97,000 jobs in the country this year and Pune will have an ample share in it, said Balaji.
According to Ma Foi Employment Trends Survey,the IT/ITES industry is showing signs of stability. This sector with a total employment base of 17,93,000 will create 97000 new jobs,the fourth largest amongst all sectors in 2010-11.
Survey also says at least 68,000 new jobs will be created in the manufacturing industry,which currently has a job base of 55,30,000. Auto sector,light engineering,minerals and metals are expected to show some resurgence. With Pune being a traditional auto hub,more recruitment will be taking place here. Also,many auto majors had set up their base in Pune which has a good talent pool, said Balaji,about the survey that also said close to 1 million jobs will be created in this calendar year in the country.
A R Rajesh,vice-president of recruitment company Teamlease,said now industry intends to hire aggressively. From 2010 January to March,Pune made the highest jump in hiring in the country and the IT/ITES sector was the largest growing sector. From April to June,the employment outlook has gone up by five points, said Rajesh.
Teamlease report said in the first quarter Pune has seen the highest jump,by 50 points,when it comes to employment outlook and stands at 70 points. The business outlook of Pune has also seen a jump of 63 points,the highest among cities,and currently stands at 77. From April-June the employment outlook for Pune has grown by five points and the business outlook has seen a dip by two points,but is one of the highest in the country.
