The University of Pune (UoP) has decided to implement Kranti Jyoti Savitri Bai Phule scholarship for girl students doing professional courses from colleges affiliated to the varsity from this academic year. The decision was taken in the management council meeting on Monday.
Ten undergraduate students and five post-graduate students from each college can avail themselves of the scholarship. In a bid to promote research studies, the varsity also decided to provide Rs 25,000 as a token of appreciation to non-teaching staff who plan to do PhD from the university.
The council also decided to table the issue of reducing casual leaves of college teachers in the senate. A government resolution issued in April has proposed that casual leaves of college teachers be reduced. The issue was raised in the management council meeting on Monday. “We decided to put forth the issue before the senate, as it comes under its authority,” said a management council member.
The issue of upgrading the posts of law officer, medical officer, information officer and assistant finance officer was also discussed during the meeting. The varsity is considering upgrading these posts to make the administration more efficient. The council appointed a two-member committee comprising management council members Sureshchandra Bhosale and Rajendra Vikhe- Patil to look into the matter.
The council also approved the report of a committee appointed to look into the case of alleged mass copying at Mulshi Institute of Technology and Research during the engineering exams.
