Punjab Chief Minsiter, Parkash Singh Badal would inaugurate the Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan and Expo tomorrow at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar in Punjab where over a lakh enthusiastic students, farmers, scientists and top brains are expected to arrive.
The four day long Science Congress that would conclude on October 14 is being organised jointly by LPU,Vijnana Bharati, Punjab Technical University and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. The conference is expecting 2000 delegates from all over the country in which around 60 experts in various fields will impart expert lectures. The present challenges and development strategies for Punjab will be discussed exclusively in this conference.
On its first day, Expo will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal. The second day will see the opening of BVS by T K A Nair, Adviser to Prime Minister while valedictory programme will have Governor of Punjab, Shivraj Patil as the chief guest of the concluding day.
LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal told reporters that "for all the four days of BVS-EXPO, more than one lakh students from about 12,000 senior secondary schools, polytechnic colleges and ITIs from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh and other parts of country. About 10,000 principals and teachers are also expected to throng the campus. There will be 120 stalls, In three mammoth hangers, to exhibit the best of displays from ISRO, DRDO, DFO, Army, Governments of MP, HP, Punjab, Vijnana Bharati, PTU, Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala and LPU."
Vice Chancellor PTU, Dr Rajneesh Arora added that "to make the visit more purposeful and interesting, in addition to Conference and Science Expo, many technical and non-technical activities and games, under the title 'Infotainment Fiesta' will also be conducted for visiting students. Students along with their teachers will learn, explore, participate and experience this mega event. For teachers and principals workshops on leadership, e-learning and smart teaching will concentrate on leadership skills, usage of computers and internet for making teaching more effective." BVS Co-ordinator, Jayakumar added: "In addition, Students will have life time opportunity to interact with Tessy Thomos of AGNI V fame and other renowned scientists. Two sessions per day will be arranged in which visiting Scientists will interact with the students."
