Even as a political crisis unfolded in Punjab,with five BJP ministers in the Punjab Cabinet putting in their papers,Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was forced to divert his attention and energies towards his ailing wife Surinder Kaur Badal who was admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Thursday and continued to be in hospital today.
The senior Badal,tackling the political situation developing in the state,spent the entire night at the PGI attending to his septuagenarian wife,who is believed to be suffering from cancer and multiple organ disorder and is reportedly in a critical state. The Punjab CM spent a good part of the day today at his wifes bedside. Punjabs Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal also spent some time in the hospital today.
The PGI authorities,however,maintained a studied silence on her condition,only going on record to say that her condition was stable and that she was under observation. Meanwhile,due to the presence of the visiting VIPs including political bigwigs,PGI was abuzz with more activity than usual.
The private ward on the fourth floor in Block A where Surinder is admitted to a VIP room has been equipped with a metal detector at the entrance. All those who are visiting the private ward have to go through the metal detector for security reasons.
Punjab Police,in addition to the CM and Deputy CMs private security personnel could be seen all over the place. VVIP vehicles with red beacons also lined the main road inside PGI.
Surinder Badal has earlier undergone treatment at hospitals in the US.
