On the eve of Independence Day, the Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh governments announced the names of their officers chosen for President's Police Medals.
While two Punjab ADGPs will be conferred with police medals for distinguished service, an IGP and 13 officers will be honoured for their meritorious services. They included ADGP (Law and Order and HRD) Satish Kumar Sharma and ADGP (Internal Vigilance Cell and Human Rights) Narinder Sharma.
Two police personnel of Haryana will be given the President's Police Medals. The medal for gallantry will be awarded to head constable Babu Ram (posthumously), while Ambala-Panchkula Commissioner of Police Kulyash Kumar Sharma will be honoured for distinguished service. On December 9, 2009 Ram succumbed to his injuries after he was run over by a Bolero at a check-post in Gurgaon for signalling to stop the vehicle.
Meanwhile, while Himachal ADGP (Armed police and Trainings) Prithvi Raj was chosen for the medal for his distinguished services, four other officers' names were announced for their meritorious services.
