In the backdrop of complaints alleging that Punjab DGP P S Gill had visited Moga district several times in the recent past with the purpose of nurturing it politically ahead of the assembly elections in the state early next year, the Election Commission (EC) has sought a factual report on these allegations from the state Chief Electoral Officer.
Some political parties had complained about certain state government officials and their biased behaviour,in particular about deployment of about 350 police security guards to certain individuals in Moga district with ulterior motive. It was also alleged that the DGP had made several visits in recent past to Moga district with a view to nurturing it politically, said a communique from the Election Commission on Saturday, announcing that it has asked the state CEO to submit a factual report on it.
Many parties had complained to the poll panel about Gill and his kin enjoying security cover of a huge posse of Punjab Police security guards during a review meeting held on August 9 regarding preparation for Assembly elections in Punjab.
Political leaders were learnt to have brought to the ECs notice that Gill was in all likelihood going to be the nominee of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) from the Moga seat in the next elections.
The EC also asked the state CEO to keep a close watch on the activities of the Chief Ministers Principal Secretary,D S Guru,so that he is not able to influence any election-related official or process.
The EC revealed that political parties in the state had specifically complained against Guru.
