Punjabi University approves new pay scale for teachers

The Punjabi University Syndicate at a meeting on Tuesday adopted the Punjab Government’s notification with regard to giving revised pay scales and other benefits to teachers and equivalent cadres in the university and its affiliated colleges.

The Punjabi University Syndicate at a meeting on Tuesday adopted the Punjab Government’s notification with regard to giving revised pay scales and other benefits to teachers and equivalent cadres in the university and its affiliated colleges.

The revised pay scales will be given according to the University Grants Commission’s recommendations with effect from January 1,2006.

Salaries in the revised scales shall be paid in cash with effect from August 1,2009,while the arrears for the period from January 1,2006 to July 31,2009 would be released in instalments in due course.

The Syndicate also decided that the teachers,if they fulfill certain requirements,will have new designations of assistant professor,associate professor and professor instead of the existing designations of lecturer,lecturer (senior scale/section grade),reader and professor.

Scales of college principals,different categories of librarians and physical education directors have also been revised.

The Syndicate also decided that Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh shall be authorised to constitute a committee to determine modalities for implementation of new grades and suggest necessary amendments to the University Act,statutes and ordinances.

The meeting welcomed Gurnam Singh,Narinder Kaur Multani,A S Chawla,S K Verma,Jagir Singh,Sudha Sharma,Devinder Kaur Maan and Mohinder Kaur as new members of the Syndicate.

The syndicate appointed J S Neki as Professor of Eminence and approved two honorary fellowships each in the Departments of Punjab Historical Studies,Punjabi Language and Guru Granth Sahib Studies.

It also gave its nod to promotions under career advancement scheme to three professors,three readers and one lecturer (senior scale).

It also approved the appointments of one professor,five readers and 30 lecturers in the open category.

The meeting also approved extensions to M S Saini (Dean,Academic Affairs),S S Khehra (Registrar),Devinder Singh (Director,Planning and Monitoring) and Gurmeet Singh Maan (Director,Public Relations) holding additional charges.
