Residents of areas like Dadar,Matunga,Mahim,Bandra,Mumbai Central,Grant Road,Byculla,Tardeo and Chincpokli may face water shortage for the next four days from Tuesday.
The quadrupling of tracks is likely to obstruct the supply of water and residents of South Mumbai and the South central suburbs will face water shortage for some time, said SS Korlekar, chief hydraulic-engineer.
According to Korlekar,an underground Tansa main pipeline running below the tracks between western railway stations of Mahim and Bandra were obstructing the quadrupling of tracks and will have to be shifted to a lower level. According to civic officials, the work on the pipeline will be carried out in two phases,in two days. The first phase will be carried out tomorrow and on June 3 and the second phase will be carried out on June 5 and 6.
Meanwhile,WR officials stated that the problem is temporary. We are trying to extend the lines from Bandra to Mahim and connect them to the harbour line. Any problem that affects people is just temporary, said an official on condition of anonymity.
