Six villages destroyed An earthquake with magnitude 6.0 hit eastern Turkey on Monday destroying six villages in Elazig Province and killing at least 51 and injuring scores of people. 50 aftershocks The earthquake was centred near the village of Basyurt and followed by more than 50 aftershocks. The worst-hit area was the village of Okcular. In the past In 1999,two powerful earthquakes struck northwestern Turkey,killing about 18,000 people. In 2007,a 5.7 quake damaged buildings in Elazig.
