The police are yet to arrest the teacher who allegedly punished a student,11-year-old Shano, leading to her death last week. A senior police officer said they had been questioning her since Saturday.
Rajan Bhagat, the public relations officer of the Delhi Police, said: No arrest has been made yet. We are waiting for the complete postmortem report, which is expected by Monday.
Manju,a teacher at an MCD School in Outer Delhis Bawana, was accused of making Shano stand in the sun with bricks on her shoulders on April 15.
The girl lost consciousness and later slipped into a coma. She died at the Lok Nayak Hospital a day later. The teacher is not absconding. We are questioning her. We have not arrested her yet as we are collecting evidence in the case, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Atul Katiyar.
During her questioning,he said,Manju denied having done any such thing to Shano that could cause her death.
The postmortem of the girl was conducted on Saturday. According to a senior police officer, the preliminary reports suggested there was no injury mark on the body. The complete report is expected on Monday.
Sources in the police, meanwhile, said the initial reports suggested the girl died after her medical problems were aggravated due to staying out in the sun for a long time. She was epileptic and had a history of lung and respiratory problems. Her nose bled too. All these problems were aggravated due to standing in the sun, said a senior officer.
He added: One of the serious reasons that deteriorated her condition seems to be the administration of a drug, which she was allergic to. We are trying to find out where this was done at the school,by her parents or at the hospitals.
A large number of villagers, meanwhile, staged a protest in Bawana after burying Shano and were involved in minor skirmishes with the police. They were demanding Manjus arrest.
