RSS chief K S Sudershan today called the reservation policy of the UPA government ‘‘an attempt to divide the Hindu society’’.
Addressing swayamsevaks on the Smruti Mandir premises here this evening, he said the vote politics of successive governments had left the country in a turmoil and the Hindu society was being made to pay the price for it.
‘‘The same attempt was made in 1981 too. But the Government now wants to extend it (reservations) to private sector also,’’ Sudershan said adding that children of those who had benefited from the policy continued to take advantage of the policy.
‘‘Even some Brahmins are economically disadvantaged. Quota should be given on economic basis too,’’ he said.
‘‘Give opportunities, but incapable people coming to the fore will affect our national skills and efficiency,’’ he said expressing concern that nobody was worried about the development.
Sudershan, who made no mention of the terrorist attack bid on the RSS headquarters, said the ‘‘RSS has always stood by reservations at one particular level — for the socially and economically disadvantaged.’’ The RSS chief also slammed the minority status to Jains saying a conflict ‘‘is being created by raising the bogies of minoritysm and majoritysm.’’
