Ujjwal Dasgupta, a former Brigadier and Director (Computers & Training) in the R&AW who’s under surveillance after the unprecedented breach in the computer network of the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), was in-charge of an intelligence upgradation plan.
The Rs 3.5 crore plan, sanctioned by R&AW from it secret funds, was for upgradation of technical surveillance and an overhaul of the system. Its installation was completed in November 2005.
Dasgupta is presently under virtual house arrest at his Moti Bagh residence in New Delhi where IB sleuths are mounting a round-the-clock vigil. He came under the scanner after his office was searched by an IB team.
Telephone lines of his house have been disconnected and, hours after The Indian Express visited his house, even his nameplate on the door was removed. Sources said he is being questioned on the security information that was shared between the NSCS and R&AW. His office computer has been sealed as the IB tries to uncover the extent of the damage.
