The Directorate of Education guidelines on nursery admissions for 2010-2011 are yet to come in, but a few have already kickstarted their admissions, hoping to cash in on parents’ anxiety.
The schools that have announced admissions, are ready to begin selling forms after Diwali break. And most such schools are in West Delhi and Dwarka — new schools that have come up in the last five years.
One such school is the Rukmini Devi Public School in Pitampura , which will open its admissions for pre-primary and pre-school on October 15.
It has already listed the criteria for admission on their website. Forms will be sold till October 31 and the final list will be announced on Januray 9.
Others, including Springdales Pusa Road, are waiting for the DoE guidelines and will hold meetings with their management shortly after Diwali to chart out criteria and finalise admission schedule.
According to Rajan Arora of the popular blog www.nurseryadmissions.com, the reason new schools start admissions early is to sell as many forms as they can. A few schools in Dwarka do not even have a last day and keep their admissions open till the seats are filled.
“If the big schools begin admissions, their seats will remain empty. So they cash in on the insecurity of parents,” he said. “I know several schools have opened up admissions for nursery in Dwarka.”
Another school that announced admissions is the Indian School in South Delhi. Sale of forms will begin in October 21.
