The police on Thursday recovered the mobile phone and SIM card of Radhika Vashisht, the 21-year-old student who died due to drug overdose.

It was during the questioning of Gagandeep and Saurav, the two accused who are in police custody, that they revealed the whereabouts of the mobile phone. The two had allegedly thrown the mobile phone in the forest area in Sector 30.

Sub-Inspector Ram Rattan, in charge of the Sector 22 police post and the Investigation Officer of the case, said, "We recovered the phone this afternoon. The SIM card which Radhika was using has also been recovered. Now we will get her call record and tower locations."

As per the complaint filed by Radhika's friend Sweety Sharma, when Radhika was being taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Gagandeep, Saurav and another person left the car. Sweety along with the person who was driving the car took Radhika to the emergency. When the doctors said that her condition was critical, Sweety tried to contact Radhika's parents.

She had said in the complaint that she took out the SIM card from Radhika's phone and put it in her's. However, she was not able to contact Radhika's father as she did not find his number.

Asked how the phone reached the forest area in Sector 30, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Central) Ashish Kapoor said, "Sweety had left PGI (where Radhika had been referred to from GMSH-16) after Radhika's treatment started. She had then met Gagandeep and Saurav and she gave the phone to the two boys. After the two boys got the news that Radhika had died, they threw the phone in Sector 30."

However, the police have allowed Sweety to leave the town to visit her home at Batala. "Her parents were here yesterday and they had told her to come along. She asked our permission and we said that if she wanted, she could go," said a police officer involved in the investigation of the case.
