Rahul begins mass contact programme tomorrow

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will start a mass contact programme in Uttar Pradesh from Barabanki from Tuesday.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will start a mass contact programme in Uttar Pradesh from Barabanki from Tuesday.

During his five-day tour,he will travel across the Terai belt,touching Nepal and Bihar borders in eastern Uttar Pradesh,and cover Behraich,Balrampur,Shravasti,Sidharthanagar and Maharajganj districts. He will conclude his tour at Kushinagar on November 26 with a grand rally.

During his tour,he will first address party workers at the district headquarters,and then address small public meetings in selected Assembly segments.

District functionaries,AICC and PCC members from the districts and block committee members will be invited for the workers’ meetings.

While his exact route plan will be made public on Monday,sources said some of the Assembly seats he is expected to cover are Ramnagar in Barabanki; Mahasi,Kaiserganj,Matera and Nanpara in Behraich; Bhinga in Shravasti; and Tulsipur,Gainsari and Utraula in Barlampur.

In these seven districts,Congress has six MPs,including PL Punia from Barabanki,Kamal Kishore from Behraich,Vinay Kumar from Shravasti,Harsha Vardhan from Mahrajganj and RPN Singh from Padrauna (Kushinagar).

Barabanki is home town of Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma,who is a Kurmi leader. Rahul will be travelling through an area which has substantial a Kurmi and Muslim population.
