The Lokayukta Police raided an Indian Forest Service officer on Wednesday and unearthed details of unaccounted money running into more than Rs 45 crore. Simultaneous raids were carried out at the residence of Chief Conservator of Forests B K Singh in Ujjain, where he is currently posted, and Bhopal.

The police unearthed assets that included more than 400 bigha land, two farmhouses, a marriage garden, investment in hotels and malls, gold jewellery and cash.

The 1987-batch officer, whose appointment on deputation to the State Pollution Control Board had become a subject of controversy a few years ago, tried to escape when the anti-corruption team landed at his Ujjain residence in the morning.

The properties are located in Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Sehore, Ujjain and in Jaunpur and Banaras in his native state Uttar Pradesh. Some investments have been made in his in-laws' name near Budhni and Hoshangabad, where he was posted for nearly four years.

DSP O P Sagoria said that Rs 7 lakh in cash was seized, and his passbooks and other papers revealed that he has fixed deposits worth Rs 70 lakh and another Rs 70 lakh in various bank accounts. The raids also yielded foreign currency and coins.

Singh owns a palatial house in Chunabhatti locality of Bhopal and reportedly paid a huge donation to secure admission for his son in a private medical college in Bhopal.
