Delhi Police teams which have been raiding former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda's MDLR group offices have not found anything "incriminating" or of "evidentiary value" against him in the Geetika Sharma suicide case. According to sources, while hard discs of four of the computers at the offices were found missing, two had been tampered with.
Kanda had been on the run for 12 days before he dramatically surrendered on Saturday morning in the case against him of abetment to suicide.
All that the police have recovered from the computer and the offices are a few papers regarding Sharma's relationship with the MDLR group, including her appointment letter, her joining information, and a few emails exchanged between her and other employees. According to sources, almost all the documents signed by Sharma required her to report to Kanda "everyday in the evening after work".
The police have seized the hard discs and are trying to retrieve the deleted data.
Kanda, who was remanded in police custody for seven days, will be asked about his personal laptop, the missing hard discs, the special clause in Sharma's contract requiring her to meet Kanda after work, about their relationship, the senior positions Sharma held despite her inexperience, the alleged pressure on Sharma to rejoin MDLR, and especially about a certain "Ankita" with whom Kanda allegedly had a relationship and whom Sharma mentioned in her suicide note.
Kanda will also be asked about those who helped him while he was on the run.
On Sunday, the former minister was questioned for several hours by officials at the Ashok Vihar police station, including Joint Commissioner of Police Tajender Luthra and DCP (North West) P Karunakaran. He was taken to the MDLR office as well as to his Civil Lines residence in Gurgaon. Police were reportedly trying to recover the mobile phones allegedly used by Kanda to make calls to Sharma.
