Raids show factories not running ETPs

Illegal practices of industry in Jalandhar came to light on Monday during a surprise check by a special team led by the SDM.

During the checking,the team found that none of the five units,which were cheked today,were running their effluent treatment plants (ETP) and untreated industrial effluent was found.

This checking was also opposed by industrialists who gathered at two units during the checking but SDM Anupam Kler remained assertive to complete the checking.

At one unit the ETP was dry and in the other four the owners of the units claimed they were running these only when they had enough effluent to treat.

The industrialists said that such checking was a harassment and they would not allow the teams to enter their premises but official machinery told them that if they were following the norms then there was no point of being afraid.

The SDM informed that in one unit ,the ETP was lying completely unused and the matter would be reported to the DC,she added.
