The Railways have initiated an inquiry into the incident of the collision of train engines at Ramdarbar on Tuesday. The inquiry report is likely to be prepared in 10 days' time. The driver of the engine Jaswant Rai and the assistant driver have been placed under suspension.

Railways officials state that the driver of the engine that was called to replace the defective engine drove it at more than the prescribed speed. He was not able to stop the engine on time. The speed of the engine that is called in to replace a defective engine should not exceed 10 to 15 kilometres per hour. However, in this case the driver had reportedly exceeded the speed limit.

Divisional Railways Manager, Ambala Division, P K Sanghi said that the inquiry report will be ready in 10 days time. "There was negligence on the part of the driver. That is why he has been placed under suspension along with the assistant driver. To assess all the factors that went wrong, a detailed report will be prepared," said Sanghi.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the Nangal Dam-Ambala passenger train was stalled after a defect in the engine. A back up engine was called to be attached to the train. The engine collided with the engine of the stationary train. The impact of the collision led to passengers being injured. The driver of the engine was also injured. The collision led to the tracks being blocked for several hours, delaying some trains to and from the city, causing harassment to the passengers.
