The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh continued to receive snowfall on the second consecutive day today,leading to disruption of road traffic and life in many parts of the state.
In Shimla district,after snowfall at Kharapatthar and Narkanda peaks,the Shimla-Rohru Road and the old Hindustan-Tibet Road leading to Kinnaur are closed. The traffic for Kinnaur and Rampur has been diverted from Basantpur.
Communication and road links to many villages in Kinnaur district have been snapped after link roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall. State capital Shimla received rainfall throughout the day and day time temperature was recorded at 7.6 degrees Celsius,while the minimum was at 4.7 degrees Celsius. Kufri also received snowfall today and on Saturday night. Sangla,Kalpa and Chitkul in Kinnaur also received fresh snowfall today. Manali and Solang Nullah in Kullu valley also received significant snowfall. Widespread rain was experienced in lower areas of the state. The Met department has forecast more snow in higher reaches and rain in the lower areas through the next four days,causing the cold wave to intensify once again.
