  • The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) has not just leaky canals, but also leaky roofs, it has been learnt.

The roof covering the Canal Head Power House (CHPH) has started leaking following rains at the Kevadia Colony recently.

This comes after a Vadodara contractor failed to complete the waterproofing work on time.

SSNNL authorities said the approval of waterproofing the leaky CHPH roofs was delayed.

Elsewhere, officials said on condition of anonymity that it is likely to create problems in the CHPH machinery (turbines).

SSNNL Chief Engineer R V Patel said: “There was a leakage due to the construction work. But the problem was solved temporarily by putting plastic sheets. I am unaware of further details and about the contractor.”

On his part, SSNNL Chief Executive Engineer K J Trivedi said: “We had sent the proposal for waterproofing the roof nearly fourth months ago. But funds could not be sanctioned for the same due to the Model Code of Conduct being in place for the Lok Sabha elections. The funds have come only recently. Therefore, we had to take the risk to take up the task now.”

The leaky roof covers five CHPH of 250 megawatt.
