Vasundhra Raje’s three-page letter of resignation as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, written in Hindi, accuses BJP President Rajnath Singh of “undemocratic conduct” and the party of an attempt to ignore the contributions made by her mother, the late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia.
Writing the resignation letter “in extreme pain”, the former Rajasthan chief minister says she never imagined that she would be “insulted this way” by the party. Questioning the party leadership for its decision to remove her as Leader of the Opposition, she says she was “not a nominated” leader, but was “elected” by legislators and therefore, the party leadership should have taken its decision “as per democratic norms”.
The Sunday Express obtained a copy of her three-page letter, which was circulated among BJP Parliamentary Board members on Friday. “Before deciding to remove me, you should have asked my people of Rajasthan who took me to great heights, you should have sought the opinion of those MLAs who elected me as Leader of the Opposition, you should have asked the MPs who are still with me,” she says.
She also accuses the party of doing nothing to punish those responsible for the BJP’s poor showing in the Lok Sabha elections. “...Nothing is being said to them and I am being punished. What kind of justice is this that those who worked for the party and those who spoilt its chances are measured on the same scale?” she asks.
On the party’s losses in the Lok Sabha election, she says that the trend in the state since 1952 has been that whichever party wins the Assembly election also wins the parliamentary election.
