BJP chief Rajnath Singh on Monday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has opened its doors to more allies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“The number of NDA allies will certainly increase this time. Some new alliances might take place before the elections, whereas many may evolve after the polls,” he said here. “Negotiations are underway with several outfits. Some are in their final stages,” he added.
Singh is here to take stock of his party’s campaign for the April 12 bypolls. However, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister refused to comment on his party’s prospects in the bypoll. “I am yet to get any feedback from the state leaders,” he said.
He ruled out the existence of the UNPA (United National Progressive Alliance), saying it had scattered even before taking a proper shape. “Today, if there is any strong alliance in the country, it is the NDA,” he added.
He also completely ruled out the possibility of any alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). “Dejected by the Samajwadi Party rule, the public gave a clear and enthusiastic mandate to the BSP. But this Government, too, has failed to provide them any relief.
Farmers in Bundelkhand are still committing suicide.”
He argued that if the BJP Government in Chhattisgarh could give foodgrains to farmers at cheap rates, why can’t the BSP Government do the same in Bundelkhand.
Singh also lashed out at the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on the issue of price rise. “I wonder why every time when the Congress comes to power, it is unable to check the rise in price. Inflation was never an issue during the six-year BJP rule.”
